Next Wednesday (13), professors Patricia Ferreira Botelho (DLET/UFRN) and Ada Lima Ferreira de Sousa (ECT/UFRN) will launch the book “Metacognition, reading and writing practices: rethinking teaching strategies”. The event takes place at 6pm, at Mahalila Café & Livros, in Potilândia-Natal.
The work features 8 chapters written by researchers from the “Metacognition and Discursive Practices” group, made up of teachers from various educational institutions, both basic and higher education. In this example, the authors showed how the theoretical framework of cognition and metacognition can contribute to the didactic approach to the processes involved in literacy practices, through the proposition of teaching activities, which aims to bring academic research and classroom practice closer together.
Throughout the book, conceptual sections related to the teaching of reading and writing are detailed, activities are presented for application in the classroom, at different levels of education, with explanations for teachers. According to professor Patricia Ferreira Botelho, one of the organizers, the book was the result of dialogues and proposals developed throughout the creation of the research group, through exchanges held at meetings and events in which the authors were able to share their studies.
Metacognition and Discursive Practices is an interinstitutional group, based at the Institute of Letters of the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) and composed of researchers and students from UFF, IFRJ, UNIRIO and UFRN. Officialized in 2019, its main link between its researchers is investigations that relate linguistic education practices to the field of studies in Cognition, within which studies in Metacognition are included.
