UFRN opens cafeteria at the University Restaurant

Complying with actions aimed at ensuring student permanence, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) held the inauguration of the Zone 3 Refectory of the University Restaurant (RU), located on the central campus, between Class Sectors 3 and 4. Rector José Daniel Diniz Melo participated in the unveiling of the inauguration plaque, on the evening of this Friday, the 6th, and recalled that the new space was the result of much discussion with students, with the aim of bringing more comfort and quality to UK services.
According to the Dean of Student Affairs (Proae), Edmilson Lopes Júnior, the construction of the cafeteria improves the supply of food to priority students — who have a gross family income per capita of up to 1.5 minimum wages —, as it could reduce the length of queues and the movement of students from the Technology Centers (CT), Exact and Earth Sciences (CCET) and Biosciences (CB), in addition to the School of Science and Technology (ECT), who will not need to travel to central RU.
For the director of the UFRN University Restaurants system, Michelle Medeiros, the inauguration of the cafeteria brings as its main achievement the decentralization of the RU on the central campus, which will make the space more welcoming, as well as allowing for better quality service. According to the nutritionist, the space has capacity for around 280 people, offering 1,200 to 1,400 meals per shift.
Among the students who were having dinner at the time of the inauguration, the 8th period Civil Engineering student, Selasi Koblah Ayivi, said that he was born in Ghana and has been at UFRN since 2016. He eats lunch and dinner in the cafeteria, with roast chicken being his favorite dish, as it is more similar to what he ate in his country. "I know they are doing the best they can here. I've been to another educational institution and found the UFRN University Restaurant to be better", he says.
Dean Daniel Diniz thanked the RU team for their planning and dedication to their work, with a focus on improving the unit's services. The manager also reinforced the importance of constant dialogue with students, as “students are the reason our university exists”, stated the professor.
