The Tutorial Education Program (PET) Geography at UFRN held the 14th episode of the GeoProsa podcast, this time permeating discussions related to Visibility and Sexual Diversity in the month of June. The episode, presented by Ezequiel Fraga and Vanessa Galvão, members of PET Geografia, had as a guest Professor Alex Ratts, PhD in Social Anthropology and currently a student at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), as well as coordinator of the Laboratory of Gender, Ethnic-Racial and Spatial Studies at the Institute of Socio-Environmental Studies at the same institution.
In this episode, we talk about the historical factors that underlie discussions about diversity and representation of sexual minorities in the month of June, the appropriations and emancipations of the community through media, as well as the specific characteristics of the ethnic-racial perspective. In addition, the presenters and professor Alex make a cut about Stonewall, the rebellion that gave rise to LGBTQIA+ Pride Day.
Created in 2020, GeoProsa aims to promote monthly debates related to Geography, with current topics that are easy to understand for all listeners. When addressing topics, the presenters, who are members of PET, use easy-to-understand language to approach discussions and attract, in addition to Geography students and teachers, a diverse audience who are interested in the area. Some of the topics already covered were: the fires in the Pantanal, regional xenophobia and the Natal master plan.
PET Geography (Petgeo) was established at the Department of Geography (DGE) on September 15, 1996, under the supervision of professor Beatriz Maria Soares Pontes. The actions carried out by Petgeo are philosophically based on the inseparability of the university triad: teaching, research and extension, promoting short courses, extension activities, participation and organization of events, in addition to collective and individual research. The program aims to promote triad activities with the aim of always improving graduation and filling its gaps.
