CCHLA creates amphitheater project for sector II

 
An amphitheater for sector II is the project that aims to provide a coexistence space, in which students can carry out cultural, artistic and political demonstrations. This proposal is made by the management of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts, which relies on the UFRN Infrastructure Superintendence for its implementation.
This project was conceived in 2010 and is consolidated in the current management of the Center, under the command of Prof. Maria das Graças Soares and prof. Sebastião Faustino Pereira Filho.
According to the CCHLA management, this work is of great importance and will have priority at the moment. “The expectation is that we will be able to satisfactorily meet the demand of the student class, as it is the students who give reason for the existence of CCHLA courses”, comments the director.
The amphitheater was designed within a larger urbanization plan that is being developed in sector II, covering mobility (sidewalks, ramps, stairs, benches and tables), canteens, the amphitheater and courtyards.
The resources for the construction of this project come from the UFRN's single account, from which the CCHLA receives a certain amount destined for the Center's common expenses.
According to the person responsible for the project, architect Daniel Fernandes de Macedo, from the UFRN Infrastructure Superintendency, the work will have a typical amphitheater shape, which was designed to be fully accessible and will be located behind the Academic Center buildings.
Daniel Fernandes explains, “the amphitheater will have seats for wheelchair users and the stage will be at floor level so that people with or without disabilities will not encounter any type of difficulty in watching or promoting performances”.
Asked about the biggest difficulty of the work, the architect reveals, “it will be the work of adapting the shape of the grandstand to the existing terrain”.
Regarding this venture, master's student in philosophy Everton Thiago, commented, "we need a larger space for students to coexist. The corridors are very narrow and during breaks everything gets crowded. Not to mention that some spaces we use for socializing are very close to the classrooms and the noise ends up getting in the way. So it would be interesting to have a place that was far from the classrooms and that allowed a more viable interaction for the students."
History student Jéssica Nunes said that, "events take place and there is no space in the sector. I work with room keys and I see this a lot. It is always a room that will be used and the teacher needs to be relocated. With the amphitheater, all of this would be more organized. This space that would be occupied by some panel, project or presentation could be done in the amphitheater, leaving the rooms free for classes."
For Bruna Fernanda, a Psychology student, "I think we need this project, as we are a sector that produces a lot of content and when we need to present this product, we have to move to other sectors of the university. I think the amphitheater is a great initiative for a coexistence space for students here in the sector".
In a positive estimate, the amphitheater could be ready in the first half of 2017, but as the project is still under bidding, this date may vary.
