UFRN promotes colloquium on humanist geographies and academic memorial defense

The Department of Geography of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (DGE/UFRN) will hold, on April 13 and 14, 2026, the colloquium “Humanist and Cultural Geographies in Today”. The program takes place from 9 am, with activities in the Technology Center Auditorium (CT) and in the Geography Department auditorium itself, being open to the interested public.

The program begins on Monday (13), at 2 pm, with the public session to defend the academic memorial of professor Alessandro Dozena, a stage that is part of the process of functional promotion to the class of full professor. The presentation will be held in the CT auditorium, with in-person participation. The evaluation committee is made up of Eugênia Maria Dantas (UFRN), Maria Luiza de Medeiros Galvão (IFRN), Christian Dennis Monteiro de Oliveira (UFC) and Eduardo José Marandola Junior (UNICAMP).

On Tuesday (14), from 9am to 5pm, the colloquium “Humanist and cultural geographies today” will take place in the auditorium of the Department of Geography at UFRN. The event brings together discussions on contemporary approaches to Geography, with a focus on humanist and cultural perspectives.

Graduated in Geography from the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) in 1997, Alessandro Dozena completed his doctorate in Human Geography from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2009. Since 2010, he has worked as a professor of Cultural Geography at DGE/UFRN, participating in the PPGE and GEOPROF postgraduate programs. His research focuses on humanistic and cultural approaches in Geography. The professor is a Research Productivity Fellow (PQ/CNPq) and author of books in the area of ​​Cultural Geography.
