UFRN employee presents textual revision project at the VII National Text Revision Forum

The employee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Karla Geane de Oliveira, responsible for text preparation and revision activities at the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA) and coordinator of the extension project “Text revision laboratory for beginners”, presented, on May 7, 2026, the work “Text revision laboratory for beginners” during the VII National Text Revision Forum. The event took place in a hybrid format, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR).

The “Text revision laboratory for beginners” project consists of creating a laboratory for theoretical and practical studies on textual revision, focusing on the revision of academic texts, within the scope of the editorial practices of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The initiative is the result of a partnership between the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA) and the UFRN Publishing House (EDUFRN), and is aimed at undergraduate students in Literature and Journalism, Portuguese language teachers in basic education and others interested in textual review as a professional practice.

The proposal aims to understand text review as a necessary stage of textual production, whether for publication or other purposes, in addition to discussing this practice as an analytical phase, from a textual-discursive perspective. The project also seeks to introduce and strengthen, within the scope of CCHLA/UFRN, the discussion on the activity of textual review, presenting it to the target audience as knowledge necessary for academic training and a possibility of professional activity in the job market.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to expand the range of knowledge about the language offered by the institution to its undergraduates and contribute to the training of reviewers in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The focus is on training professionals capable of analyzing texts in a critical and qualified way, not only based on linguistic knowledge, but also with theoretical and methodological support aimed at textual understanding and proposing interventions to improve texts.

According to the proposal presented, the reviewer's performance must be guided by ethical principles, respect for the text produced, recognition of the necessary limits in relation to interventions and professional responsibility.

The project methodology includes study cycles, workshops, short courses, colloquiums and the creation of teaching material in partnership with EDUFRN. The activities are carried out in the auditoriums of UFRN's CCHLA, focusing on theory and practices of textual and editorial review.

The results obtained point to the training of new reviewers based on the understanding of the text as a complex object, whose review presupposes the understanding of its (co)textual and (con)textual elements. The project also highlights the success of the discussion on text revision in the public education network in Rio Grande do Norte and the Northeast region.

The initiative also demonstrates the relevance of promoting new knowledge for graduates of the Literature and Journalism courses at UFRN, Portuguese language teachers in basic education and members of the community interested in the textual review activity.

With social, academic and training relevance, the extension project “Text revision laboratory for beginners” has established itself as a reference that integrates UFRN and the community through the study and discussion of text revision and other editorial practices.
