BRAVAS Group promotes African cinema sessions

Between the 11th and 12th of December, the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA) at UFRN hosts the event Break the Silence: voices from African cinema, where, from 6:30 pm, a film will be shown in auditorium A of the department.
The event, organized by the BRAVAS group and the Department of History, aims to promote the film production of black directors, viewing it as a form of resistance to the historiographical alternative and power discourses, allowing different perspectives on Africa and the black diaspora.
During the event, two films will be promoted. On the first day (11/12), the 1975 Senegalese film “Xala” will be shown, which shows the period when Africa was in colonial times and how this period led to the creation of stereotypes about the continent in various media. The focus of the discussion will be to discuss Senegal's economic, social and cultural challenges.
On the second day (12/12), the film “Tempo de Wait” is shown, which invites us to discover the margins of the world in which we live, not to hear the impossible testimony of a series of women under an ironclad patriarchal law, but to experience this silence in its concrete materiality.
After the end of each screening there will be a debate about the film, therefore, the invitation extends to all those interested in reflections on how the black population has been represented throughout history; interested in Arab and sub-Saharan African cinema and reflections on their careers within the framework of the emergence of African cinema.
