Natal hosts seminar of the Northeast Teaching and Literature Network

On June 5th and 6th, 2025, Natal will be the center of discussions about reading, literature and literary literacy with the 3rd edition of the Seminar of the Northeast Literature Teaching Network (Renelit). Focusing on strengthening dialogue between academia and society, the event will be hosted at the Central Campus of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) and will feature conferences, workshops, conversation circles and reading sessions.
Free and itinerant, the biannual event has established itself as an important space for exchange between researchers, teachers and students in the area. After passing through Fortaleza (CE) and João Pessoa (PB), the seminar arrives in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte with the leading role of IFRN, host of this edition, the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN), and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).
The opening conference, on the 5th, will be led by researcher Rildo Cosson, one of the main scholars in Literary Literacy in Brazil, who will address the topic of Reading Teacher Training. In addition to him, the event will feature the participation of Daniela Maria Segabinazi, professor at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), researcher in the areas of children's and youth literature, literature teaching and teacher training; and Cleudene Aragão, professor at the State University of Ceará (UECE), whose research focuses on literary literacy, literature teaching and teacher training.
The program also includes moments of cultural exchanges and book launches, reinforcing the Seminar's role as a space for literary experiences and collective construction of knowledge. The event reaffirms the institutional commitment to teacher training and the promotion of literary literacy as a transformative practice in teaching. To participate, it is not necessary to pay for registration, but places in the activities are limited. The complete program is available on the event's website.
Renelit
Created in 2020, the Northeast Literature Teaching Network (Renelit) brings together teachers from municipal and state public networks, as well as researchers from higher education institutions in the nine northeastern states: Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. The proposal arises from the recognition that there is, in Brazilian schools, a multiplicity of literature teaching practices and experiences that, although promising, often remain invisible due to a lack of institutional recognition.
The Network proposes, precisely, to systematize and give visibility to these initiatives, promoting seminars and spaces for the presentation and dissemination of proposals as concrete alternatives for strengthening the teaching of literature in basic education, especially in public networks. In the 2025–2027 biennium, Renelit is under the coordination of professors Girlene Moreira, professor of the Degrees in Portuguese-Spanish Literature and Spanish Literature at the Natal-Central Campus of IFRN; Regiane de Paiva, from the Department of Foreign Languages at UERN; and Marta Aparecida Gonçalves, from the Department of Letters at UFRN.
