Philosophy Week, a traditional event at UFRN, taking place since 1990, reaches its twenty-sixth edition with prestige and the presence of students, professors and even researchers from other institutions.
The happiness of the organizing committee was evident and the coordinator of this edition, Professor Jaime Biella, welcomed him, followed in the opening speeches by the head of the department, Professor Cinara Maria Leite Nahra, who gave a more political tone, remembering the dramatic situation that philosophers went through during the occupation of the national scene by the armed forces, when the discipline was exchanged for what was then called Moral and Civic.
Then, the director of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts, professor Maria das Graças Rodrigues, directed her speech to the importance of occupying the democratic space of universities by the voices of tolerance in respect for the plurality of ideas and recalled Professor Biella's lectures in sector II as a bold initiative of the course in discussing topics of interest in the current Brazilian political moment.
Dean Ângela Maria Paiva Cruz, who is part of the philosophy course, praised the topic, even proposing that it could continue in the future and gave a brief account of the growth of the course in recent years, highlighting that today much more is produced with fewer teachers and concluded her opening by saying that she should pursue academic excellence as a manager, closing with a declaration of love for the area of knowledge she chose for her life.
The rector herself was also the speaker at the opening of the week this Monday night, and continuing with the growth of UFRN and other public universities, she recalled some documents that make this growth clear, revealing positive numbers and showing those present the path where they can be found, such as the archives of Andifes, an entity that brings together 2,300 higher education institutions.
From the tone of some interventions and different statements at the beginning of the work, it is clear that the political moment will have a strong accent among the participants and speakers, who will philosophize around the theme of this edition, “philosophy thinking about Brazil”.
The XXVI Philosophy Week at UFRN continues until the 29th, starting at 7pm, in the Auditorium of the Zila Mamede central library. It is a promotion by the Philosophy department, the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN and is intended to discuss the role of philosophy in the current Brazilian situation through the exhibition of work carried out by researchers from other institutions, both from RN and from other units of the federation
In its 26th edition, Philosophy Week features as guest speakers Professors Vladimir Safatle from USP and Professor Dr. Julio Cabrera from UnB. The event features conferences, round tables and oral communications. For more details about the program, just visit: http://xxvisemanadefilosofia.weebly.com/
