UFRN promotes the launch of the book “Viagem ao Brasil” and lecture with professor Bruno Miranda

On December 5th, starting at 7pm, in Auditorium “B” at CCHLA, the Historical and Geographical Institute of Rio Grande do Norte and UFRN will promote the launch of the book “Viagem ao Brasil”.
At the meeting, there will be a talk with one of the organizers of the work, Pof. Dr. Bruno Romero Ferreira Miranda from UFRPE, about the diary of the Danish army soldier Peter Hansen, who served in Rio Grande do Norte between 1646 and 1654.
Journey to Brazil, by Peter Hansen, was written by a Danish soldier who spent ten years in Pernambuco and managed to emerge alive from clashes such as the battles of Tabocas (1645), Casa Forte (1645) and Guararapes (1648 – 1649).
Peter Hansen described the throes of the Dutch presence in Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Rio Grande do Norte from their arrival in Recife in 1644 until their troubled return journey to the Netherlands in 1645.
A great historical document about daily life in the 17th century, the work serves as a study on Dutch rule in Brazil and is of broad relevance for anyone interested in studying social history and mentalities at the beginning of the modern era.
The work was organized by UFRPE professor Bruno Romero Ferreira Miranda in partnership with researchers Benjamin Nicolaas Teensma (emeritus from Universiteit Leiden, Netherlands) and Lucia Furquim Wenerck Xavier (master in History from Erasmus Universiteit, Rotterdam).
