As part of the actions promoted throughout LGBTQIA+ pride month, a new event from the Interdisciplinary Center for Studies in Sexual Diversity, Gender and Human Rights (Tirésias/UFRN) promotes, this Thursday, July 30th, at 6pm, a conversation circle to discuss the problems and issues that permeate the experience of the LGBTQIA+ population, whether in the state of Rio Grande do Norte or nationally. Both the internal community of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and the external public with an interest in the topic are invited to participate in the action.
Entitled Conversation Circle on LGBTQIA+ Pride: spaces, subjects and experiences, the event is coordinated by professor Francisco Cleiton Vieira da Silva do Rêgo and in collaboration with three students. To support the discussion, the participation of Suzanne Freire, master in Social Anthropology and activist, and Lucas Nascimento, bachelor in Public Policy Management and master's student in Social Anthropology, is expected.
The expectation is that the meeting will ensure the celebration and greater visibility of political and social resistance practices that challenge conventions of minorization of the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to this, the meeting wants to think of this audience as a group of individuals who are proud of their socio-political and cultural existence, even facing violations inside and outside Brazilian territory. The event will take place in Auditorium C of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), located on the Central Campus, and registrations can be made through Sigaa.
Tiresias
Tiresias is a group that seeks to expand discussions around issues related to sexual diversity, gender equality and guaranteeing citizens' rights. Among its specific objectives are the systematization of information; data and indicators on the vulnerabilities of the LGBTQIA+ population; the production of knowledge capable of supporting the formulation of Bills and Public Policies at the federal, state and municipal levels to promote and protect minorities; and support for actions inside and outside the University focusing on the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community.
