Psychology is responsible for studying people's behavior, individual and collective. It is a science that has made great advances in understanding human interrelations in various fields, such as clinical, social, educational and labor. On August 27th, entities across Brazil celebrate 60 years of the regulation of Psychology as a science and profession.
Here, in Rio Grande do Norte, the Applied Psychology Service (SEPA/UFRN) and other state institutions that work in this area will be honored by the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Norte (ALRN), in a solemn session in honor of this important milestone for psychology in Brazil. The event takes place this Friday, 15th, in the Plenary of Deputy Clóvis Motta, from ALRN, at 9am.
João Argolo, psychologist and technician at SEPA, explains that receiving this honor is recognition of a unit that has always been dedicated and involved with psychology in the state, since its inception. The Service, designed and created in 1965 by psychiatrist Francisco Quinho Chaves Filho, developed the first works with psychological measuring instruments, even before the creation of the Psychology course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, in 1976.

The Applied Psychology Service (SEPA), a supplementary body of UFRN, linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), functions as a teaching service for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Psychology. The unit works with two objectives: to serve as a professional training field in Psychology, through teaching activities, research projects and extension actions; provide services in the areas of psychological activity to the community in general, public administration units and non-profit organizations, prioritizing low-income and/or socially vulnerable populations.
