The Department of Social Communication begins this Wednesday, 28th, the cycle of study meetings of the research project “Subaltern Epistemologies and Communication – desCom”, from the period 2019.2. The first meeting, which addresses the topic: “Paulo Freire and decolonial thought: an urgent and necessary dialogue”, takes place at 9:30 am, in Room 1 of the Department of Social Communication at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (DECOM/UFRN).
In this action, undergraduate scientific researchers participating in desCom will reflect on the works of the Brazilian pedagogue and thinker Paulo Freire and the American black feminist thinker, educator and activist bell hooks. After the presentation, a discussion will be held based on the reflections presented.
The project “Subaltern Epistemologies and Communication – desCom”, coordinated by professor Antonino Condorelli, aims to reflect on the decolonization of thought and communication practices, as well as the production of knowledge in the human and social sciences in general, through the study, discussion and cartography of thoughts produced by subjects and social groups subordinated by the Eurocentric and colonial matrix of thought, imposed by the hegemonic version of Western modernity.
The meeting is open to the university and external community. According to the coordinator, interested parties can read the texts in advance, although it is not a mandatory condition for participating in the debate. The books that will be discussed at the meeting are available in the desCom project folder on Google Drive: More information on social media: Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
