The Cirandar project, created by journalist Rita Machado, promotes the screening of a documentary that addresses Potiguar poetry. The event takes place at the cultural space and vegan bourgeoisie Goodala, from 5pm to 10pm, on November 19th. This documentary, the first of the project, features the participation of UFRN professors and deals with Lourival Açucena, considered the first poet of Rio Grande do Norte.
The professor of the Department of Literature, José Luiz Ferreira, the journalists and former professors of the Social Communication course, Vicente Serejo and Cassiano Arruda, are some of those interviewed for the first documentary. Master and historian Maiara Gonçalves from the History course at UFRN, who recently released her master's thesis in book form, is also one of the interviewees.
"We celebrate the 195th anniversary of the birth of our inaugural poet, Lourival Açucena. This first edition of Cirandar is in honor of him", explains Rita Machado. The project was one of those selected from the 2022 Creative Economy Notice, from Sebrae/RN.
Lourival Açucena was born in 1827, in Natal, during the times of the empire where D. Pedro I was still on the throne. He followed the transition from the empire to the republic, the first paved streets, he was a musician, actor, composer and above all a bohemian from the time when people serenaded the city's clay streets. He married three times and had 32 children.
The documentary will be released together with a magazine and a literary fair and, in addition to bringing together 30 poets to promote the sale of their books, it will also be a meeting place for the public to meet the authors, exchange ideas, sign books and listen to poetry. Anchella Monte and Clarissa Torres will be among the poets to launch books: “A Droplet that didn’t want to rain”.
The event, which is free, also features a musical performance by Luiz Gadelha, who in addition to developing excellent authorial work also works in partnerships with Brazilian poets.
