A voluntary project designed and coordinated by the professor of the Department of Psychology at UFRN, Katie Moraes de Almondes, aimed at assisting health professionals from all over Brazil with sleep disorders through a virtual platform, received international recognition granted by the Erasmus Project, the “CAP SUR D’ECOLE EUROPE and by the 6th Congress of Neuroscience and Learning” as a good practice for the good of humanity.
The project entitled, “Sleep Psychologists against Covid-19”, brings together 10 professionals certified by the Brazilian Sleep Society and the Brazilian Psychology Society spread across Brazil to meet the demand for complaints of sleep disturbances among health workers in the country.
"When the pandemic was declared in March, I had the idea of inviting specialist colleagues who are in several states in Brazil to initially offer services to frontline professionals. During the course of the project, we also expanded to other health professionals who were not directly linked to Covid-19 care", explained professor Katie Almondes.
Regarding the recognition of the project at an international level, the professor sees it as a possibility to increasingly expand the incentive for the association between teaching, research and extension for social inclusion. “I see it as an incentive to produce cutting-edge knowledge with academic quality, technical-scientific knowledge, which will reach society more frequently”.
