The Postgraduate Program in Media Studies at the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN promotes on June 1st, starting at 5:30 pm in the UFRN LabCom Auditorium, the inaugural class “A perspectivist network analysis: methodologies for studying big data in social communication” which marks the official opening of the first PhD class in Media Studies at UFRN
The event aims to share all the possibilities that data collection, mining and visualization allow for the field of social communication. The guest professor to teach this class will be Fabio Malini from UFES.
The perspectivist method of network analysis seeks to identify, process and interpret the points of view that are expressed in the space and time of interactions on social networks.
From a theoretical point of view, the perspectivist network method is based on a reflection that articulates the anthropological theory formulated by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, Bruno Latour's conception of actor-network theory and graph theory.
From an empirical perspective, it presents the concepts of topological perspective and temporal perspective in social network analysis, based on the production of written messages and images that profiles create on different social network platforms. To illustrate this methodological possibility, I analyze the RT networks of the #ContraTarifa movement and the #VemPraRua movement.
