Deart holds a commemorative meeting about Câmara Cascudo and Mário de Andrade

The Center for Art and Culture (NAC), at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), is holding the Cascudo and Mário meeting – celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the modern art week, which will take place at the Jesiel Figueiredo laboratory theater – Deart/UFRN, on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September. The modernist project undertaken by the writers will be the topic of discussion at the event, coordinated by Professor Elisa Belém.
The event begins on September 20th, at 3pm, with a reading of letters from writers Mário de Andrade and Luís da Câmara Cascudo, by students on the Theater Degree course at DEART/UFRN, followed by an institutional opening.
 Next, there is the debate panel “The research and works of Mário de Andrade and Luís da Câmara Cascudo: the presence of Modernism in the Northeast and Rio Grande do Norte”. Participating are Professors Carlos Sandroni (UFPE), Humberto Hermenegildo de Araújo (UFRN) and Joatan Medeiros (UFRN), at 4 pm. In the late afternoon, at 6pm, the video performance “You are what you don't eat” takes place in the corridors of the building attached to DEART, created by professor Naira Ciotti.
On the 21st, at 4pm, there will be a presentation of the theatrical show “A Menina Boba”, by actress-creator Barbara Biscaro (Florianópolis, SC), based on the work and correspondence between Oneyda Alvarenga and Andrade, collaborator and organizer of posthumous books by Mário de Andrade. The show will be followed by a debate and will also take place at Teatro Laboratório Jesiel Figueiredo, DEART/UFRN.
On September 22nd, at 3pm, selected scenes from the show Des(Caminhos), by the UFRN Dance Group, will be presented, directed by Professor Teodora Alves (UFRN). Afterwards, a debate table will be held with Professors André Carrico, Regina Johas and Teodora Alves, from the Theater, Visual Arts and Dance area at UFRN, based on the theme “Creation processes based on the work and correspondence of Mário de Andrade and Luís da Câmara Cascudo”.
The event is free, upon collection of tickets 30 minutes in advance at Teatro Laboratório Jesiel Figueiredo.
