Mostra Monstra opens registrations for course on Afrofuturism

Registration is now open for the extension course “Afrofuturism and critical fables”, from the Department of Communication (Decom) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), which will take place between the 24th and 28th of August, from 3pm to 5pm, remotely via videoconference.
The initiative proposes to think about the aesthetic-political developments of productions in different media, especially in audiovisual media, whose protagonism is not only black in the themes, in the technical teams, but starts from the notion of black experiences within the narratives to cover the field of speculative fiction, structuring futures for black people, as well as fabulating about the present and/or reimagining the past.
The course will be taught by professor, critic and curator Kênia Freitas, PhD in Communication and Culture from UFRJ, post-doctoral student in Communication at UNESP, member of Elviras – Coletivo de Mulheres Críticas de Cinema and curator of exhibitions such as “Afrofuturism: cinema and music in an intergalactic diaspora” (2015) and “Black Directors in Brazilian Cinema” (2017/2018). It is not necessary to have a link with UFRN to participate, but residents of Rio Grande do Norte will have priority.
