The Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures department of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN through the Ágora Institute will offer Portuguese courses for foreigners in the second half of 2016.
The Portuguese foreign language courses at Instituto Ágora aim to develop reading skills, oral comprehension, written production and spoken speech in Portuguese. Classes cover the language in its grammatical aspects, in addition to the cultural and social traits of Brazilian civilization.
The target audience for this course are foreign students from undergraduate and postgraduate courses at UFRN and all those with an appropriate visa
(applicants holding a tourist visa will not be accepted).
UFRN strongly recommends that students from partner Universities apply for enrollment in one of the classes offered according to their level of proficiency in Portuguese.

Placement test
Date: August 1, 2016.
Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
The placement test will be applied to new students who want to start studying at levels A2 or B1.
Registration for the placement test must be done by submitting a registration request via email at plnmufrn@gmail.com by 11:00 pm on July 31st.
Enrollment
Date: August 5, 2016.
Opening hours: from 8:00 to 12:00.
Location: room 12 of CCHLA (on the 1st floor of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts, which is in front of the Zila Mamede Central Library, UFRN)

Documents and copies required for new students
1. CPF (It is not possible to register without this document, which can be obtained from the Federal Revenue Service, in Ribeira);
2. Passport (original and copy of photo sheet);
3. Copy of the visa sheet in your passport (tourist visas will not be accepted);
4. Proof of residence (electricity, water, telephone bill). It doesn't have to be in your name;
5. National Foreigner Registry (RNE), if you have a residence visa (copy of the card or protocol).

Fee
R$300.00 upfront for the entire semester. There is no possibility of paying in installments. The fee is non-refundable.
Observations
1. All new and returning students must register. Non-registered students will not be able to attend classes.
2. Classes will start at the scheduled time. Avoid delays.
3. If you have a minimum frequency of 75% and a final grade equal to or greater than 7.00 / 10.00, you will be entitled to a certificate of completion at the end of each course.
Textbook
All students must purchase the book Novo Avenida Brasil 1 (for Portuguese A1), Novo Avenida Brasil 2 (for Portuguese A2), Novo Avenida Brasil 3 (for Portuguese B1) or Português Via Brasil (for Portuguese B2) according to the level they are studying. Unauthorized copies will not be permitted in the room. Supplementary materials will be provided by Instituto Ágora.
Start of classes:
August 8th (for Monday and Wednesday classes).
August 9th (for Tuesday and Thursday classes).
Important!
The instructors are students in the last semesters of the degree in humanities coordinated by a permanent professor at the university. The Portuguese language is the teaching object and the medium of instruction adopted in the course.
Our students are of different nationalities and all classes are taught in Portuguese. Keep in mind that you will need to make an effort to understand the classes and speak Portuguese from the first day. There is no individualized foreign language instruction for beginning students
