Instituto Ágora and Department of History promote film exhibition

Next Thursday, the 25th, the Department of History (DEHIS) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) will hold the film exhibition Fragments of a Greater Sense: Films from Africa and the Diaspora, with the screening of the film In Search of Happiness. The event takes place in auditorium 1 of Instituto Ágora, starting at 3pm.
The purpose of the film exhibition is to promote and encourage the experience of cinematographic productions by black directors, viewing them as a form of resistance and an alternative to historiography and discourses of power. The idea is to present works that can give rise to an unprecedented approach and allow for renewed perspectives on Africa, the diaspora and blackness.
   In Search of Happiness is a work produced in 2002, in Mali, by director Abderrahmane Sissako. In addition to the screening of the film, there will also be prior discussions contextualizing the work and the topic covered and debate at the end of the event. Anyone interested can participate. Registration is open and can be completed via Sigaa.
The initiative is coordinated by professor Susana Guerra, from DEHIS, and also includes the screening of two more films: on May 23, the production shown and debated will be Baba Aziz – The Prince Who Contemplated His Soul, by director Nacer Khemir. On June 13th, it will be the turn of Barakat!, by Djamila Sahraoui.
