GeoRisco participates in book on Panorama of Covid-19 in Brazil

Researchers from the GeoRisco group, from the Department of Geography at UFRN, participated in the production of the book “Panorama da Covid-19 no Brasil”. The work was proposed by professors from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) and seeks to carry out a survey with the diagnosis of the disease throughout Brazilian territory. The production brings together the collaboration of 176 researchers and 95 institutions from all over Brazil, and from the most different areas of knowledge.
GeoRisco contributed to the production of Chapter 16: Panorama of Covid-19 in the State of Rio Grande do Norte and Chapter 48 Spatial Analysis of Covid-19: Study from the CoronaRisco task force at different scales. The UFRN researchers and geographers who participated were: Prof. Lutiane Queiroz de Almeida, Georisk coordinator, Ana Clara Celestino Belchior, Eduardo Sousa de Azevedo Lima, Epaminondes Pinheiro Machado Neto and Vinnícius Dionízio.
The work is divided into two parts: a general overview of Covid-19 in the 26 Brazilian States and the Federal District, with 27 thematic dossiers. In the first part, the spatial and temporal dynamics of the pandemic on a state scale are described, where researchers from each Federation Unit take a look and analyze the same set of data: cases, deaths by municipalities and public policies adopted to combat Covid-19. In the second part, the authors explore different impacts of the pandemic, methodologies and initiatives to understand and mitigate its effects.
The book represents an important step in understanding how the pandemic behaved in Brazil, in addition to providing readers with a view of the most different perspectives for coping with decision-making in future situations, similar to those that occurred during the pandemic years.
