The former dean of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, journalist and retired professor Geraldo dos Santos Queiroz, gives a lecture to students of the Journalism Course on Pioneering and the Consolidation of Higher Education in Journalism in RN, this Wednesday, at 2:50 pm, in room A3 of the Department of Communication.
Professor Geraldo Queiroz graduated from the first class, in 1965, of the Journalism Course at the former Faculty of Journalism Eloy de Souza, created under the government of journalist Aluízio Alves, and of which he was the first director, as a former student, between 1970 and 1974.
Geraldo Queiroz organized and published, in 2015, with three other journalists, Nicolau Frederico, Rejane Lordão and Tarcísio Gurgel, the book “Memories: Faculdade de Jornalismo Eloy de Souza”, in which several other former students also give testimonies, such as Albimar Furtado, Racine Santos and João Batista Machado.

In addition to being rector of UFRN, from 1991 to 1995, professor Geraldo Queiroz was also Pro-Rector of Extension, Head of the Department of Education, Secretary of Education and Culture of the Municipality of Natal and state deputy for two terms.
A member of the Academia Norte-Rio-Grandense de Letras, to which he was elected last year (2018) for the vacancy left by journalist and poet Sanderson Negreiros, Geraldo Queiroz is also the author of the book “Geringonça do Nordeste – A Fala Proibida do Povo”.
The former dean's lecture takes place as part of the content of the subjects History of Journalism and Journalistic Styles, taught by professor Francisco de Assis Duarte Guimarães.
