In August this year, the Festival do Minuto teamed up with the International Cinema Academy (AIC) to propose the theme of Making Cinema as the starting point of a one-minute video. Until the last day of registration (15/11), the project received 165 works that, in the most diverse ways, explored the sensations and metalanguage of the audiovisual process.
One of the winning candidates at this festival was UFRN journalism student Anália Alencar, who won a full scholarship at AIC with the production of the short film entitled: “The daughter of cinema”.
Anália comments that the work of producing and experimenting in the audiovisual field was expanded in the Video Production discipline, with professor Mirian Pinheiro, in the Social Communication course at UFRN.
From this, the student felt the need to explore the possibilities of the audiovisual universe, signing up for the Festival, for the challenge of producing a one-minute narrative that tells a story – and a good story – about the meaning of making cinema and producing films, in addition to being a great opportunity for those who are starting to produce.
Regarding public feedback regarding her production, Anália comments:
"I was very happy with people's response, generally asking questions about “my father”, because in this way I achieved one of the objectives of making a film: convincing the public that this is reality. The “father” of the film is an audiovisual director from Natal/RN, Júlio Castro, with whom I got in touch asking to use his images, which were fundamental for the narrative construction. I used documentary language to create the film's argument and in this way it can be considered a doc-fic or just a fiction indeed.”
Professor Mirian Pinheiro from the Social Communication department at UFRN, after learning about the recognition of the work developed by her student, said:
"The feeling that surrounds me is one of satisfaction, joy and respect for the creativity and expressiveness of the student who accepted the methodology proposed for the subject of privileging the students' skills and competencies, giving them autonomy so that together we can produce knowledge in a collaborative and interactive way. I feel fulfilled as an educator, assuming the role of mediator in the teaching-learning process."
With plans to produce new audiovisual productions and pursue a career in this field, the student commented on her award:
"It's gratifying and motivating to have won a film competition, especially because the other productions submitted were very good. This recognition makes me think that the audiovisual path can be very successful and also involves a lot of learning."
The fascination with cinema has undoubtedly made it one of the most democratic arts that created and fueled, at the same time, an appetite for spectacle, offering the opportunity to recreate the past, reimagine the present and visualize the future. Showing us that these new generations of filmmakers will continue this essence that has made cinema something so particular and sublime for all these years.
Anália Alencar, after participating in the festival, comments that the audiovisual area satisfies her and she will certainly pursue a career in it. Personal archive photo.
