The School of Music of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (EMUFRN) welcomes this Wednesday, 29th, at 8pm, the renowned pianist Gisele Pires Mota, professor at the University of Brasília (UnB) and PhD from Florida State University (USA), for a recital performance in the Onofre Lopes Auditorium. Titled Hommage, the presentation brings together Polish and Brazilian works.
On a national level, the recital marks the centenary of the birth of composer and conductor Cláudio Franco Santoro and the 70th anniversary of the death of composer and conductor Heitor Villa-Lobos, described as “the most significant creative figure of the 20th Century in Brazilian classical music” and the best-known South American composer of all time. On an international level, it commemorates the 170th anniversary of the death of Frédéric Chopin, a Polish pianist based in France and one of the best-known in the history of music in the Romantic era, and the 60th anniversary of the death of Grazina Bacewicz, a Polish guitarist, author of beautiful works little known outside of Poland.
