On the morning of this Wednesday, the 18th, the first round table debate “For a regional history: new scientific trajectories on nineteenth-century culture” took place, which brought together researchers and professors Ana Cristina Pereira Lima, Jeferson Candido Alves, Vanessa Spinosa and mediator Douglas Araújo.
The first topic addressed was “Poor and orphaned children in the world of work: research paths”, the doctoral topic of professor Ana Cristina Pereira Lima at the Federal University of Ceará. The teacher commented that it is not possible to create a social history of childhood, as the very construction of the child subject is historical, temporal and, therefore, it is not possible to catalog a model of childhood.
Throughout her speech she discusses that it is necessary to look at the child as a historical subject of their own realities, realizing how the experiences of these children in contact with that universe of norms and orders of their attitudes will build their stories which, therefore, will be experienced as something common in the 19th century. It is necessary to understand that the idea of childhood and children is formed and changed over time until it reaches our contemporary notion of it.
Then, the prof. Jeferson Alves presented the theme “Times of anguish; family and heritage in the backlands of the province of Rio Grande do Norte”, the teacher’s master’s degree completion project at the Federal University of Campina Grande.
He pointed out several data from his research to support the need to study family histories based on a demographic study, in addition to the need to destroy the conservative basis that there is only one family made up of a father and mother married in the church. He shows that in the 19th century there were already families made up of single mothers, slaves, those not consecrated by marriage, among others.
At the end of the presentations, mediator Prof. Dr. Douglas Araújo opened space for students to ask questions to the speakers, starting very interesting and exciting debates.
Professor and event organizer Vanessa Spinosa commented that the event is the result of an observation in the classroom in which undergraduate students want to understand the investigative paths of the human sciences.
Vanessa Spinosa hopes that the topics covered throughout the event will encourage research and that in the future we will have researchers who seek to study everything from the beginnings of history to the present.
In the coming days, students will have contact with different levels of scientific research.
