Decom holds event on Latin American Audiovisual Conditions

The Department of Social Communication (Decom) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) is holding the event “Conditions of Latin American audiovisual: productive materiality and poetic matter,” which takes place from September 4th to 8th. The meeting starts at 5pm via the Google Meet platform, with simultaneous broadcast on YouTube. To participate, you can register through Sigaa.
The opening conference, scheduled for the 4th, is given by Professor Michael Chana, from Roehampton University, England, who addresses the theme “Experiences of documenting Latin America and its dialogues with Europe.”
On the same day, there is a dialogue on “Logistics and public policies for the promotion of the national sector and between the nations of the continent,” with the participation of Colombian filmmaker Felipe Guerrero and Lia Gómez, from the National University of La Plata, in Argentina.
On the 5th, the lectures address the “Trajectory of Professional Training and Audiovisual Archiving in Latin America,” with presentations by John Mraz, from the Autonomous University of Puebla, and Maria Dora Genis Mourão, General Director of the Cinemateca Brasileira.
On the 6th, the theme is “Limits for the Characterization of Latin American Audiovisual and the Decisive Moments of Its Global Insertion,” with contributions from Aurelio de Los Reyes, from the Autonomous University of Mexico, and Ariel Arnal, professor at the Iberoamerican University.
The following day, discussions focus on “Technological Transformations and Their Impact on the Curation, Production, Distribution and Exhibition of Audiovisual Pieces from Latin America,” with the participation of the professor at the School of Communication at the University of Rio de Janeiro, Guimar Ramos, and the Argentine filmmaker from the Audiovisual Cluster, José Campusano.
The last day of the event explores the theme “Thematic, Figurative and Iconographic Prisms of the Poetics of Latin American Cinema Before and Today.” On this occasion, Mexican filmmaker Juan Carlos Rulfo and Decom professor and event coordinator, Sebastião Guilherme Albano, participate in the conversations.
