The UFRN Arts Department (Deart/UFRN) is holding, this Wednesday, the 21st, the Voo prints exhibition and fair. The event features productions from the engraving classes of the Visual Arts course in 2022, under the guidance of professor Mariana do Vale. The activity takes place at Galeria Laboratório do Deart, starting at 5pm.
With productions that dialogue with themes such as the body, nature, the political and the abstract, in this exhibition engraving gains new dimensions and takes flight in experimentation. In addition to the exhibition, the artists will be selling their work at an engraving fair. “There were four classes, resulting in 80 students, more or less, but obviously not everyone will exhibit and it was up to whoever wanted to participate”, says Mariana do Vale.
The teacher explains that the exhibition is called flight because it is a dialogue between thinking about the issue of gravity, pressure and what is inherent in the materiality of engraving, art and flight when students bring works understanding engraving as an expanded practice. "This means they can use supports other than paper. They use fabric and tracing paper. We have some different works, with collage and everything. It's called flight because of this idea that they expand, find flights for experimentation", he reports.
The teacher tells us what her expectations are for the event. "I hope it will be an opportunity to give visibility to the production and artistic quality of our students. Furthermore, it is an event open to the community outside the University, with this we intend to create an audience that is also a consumer of artistic production in Rio Grande do Norte and, in this case, especially for engraving. Engraving is usually linked to cordel, in addition to being a historically marginal practice in the history of art. This is an opportunity to show another perspective, an expanded perspective on engraving", he says.
The teacher invites people who have engravings and matrices to bring their works, as the studio will be open to print the material. “We will also have a disco at the opening and we will do a kind of collective and performative work at the beginning of the event”, he reveals.
