The Cursinho Popular Dona Militana, an extension action of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), invites students, teachers and education professionals to debate the repeal of the New Secondary Education. The intention of the event, which takes place on May 24th, at 5pm, in the auditorium of the Zila Mamede Library (BCZM), is to present a new perspective that includes the needs of students in light of the proposed expansion of school hours, which will increase from the current 2,400 hours to 3,000 hours.
According to the extension action, coordinated by History Department professor Margarida Dias, the New High School aims, given the increase in the workload of students and teachers, to harm the formation of critical and reflective thinking. The extension assesses that expanding the content can also generate more fatigue and pressure on a student and teaching body that is already aggravated due to the lack of educational infrastructure. During the event, the project proposes to debate the following questions: Revoking is urgent, but which paths do we want to follow? We know that going back to the old model is not the solution! How does popular education help in this context?
