About the speaker
Professor Nilma Lino Gomes is originally from Belo Horizonte and was the first black woman in Brazil to head a public federal university, in 2013, when she was appointed rector of the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia (UNILAB). In 2015, Nilma Lino was led to the Ministry of Women, Racial Equality and Human Rights, a department created by then president Dilma Rousseff, which united the secretariats of Policies for Women, Racial Equality, Human Rights and part of the General Secretariat's responsibilities. She remained in office until the day the president was removed by the Federal Senate.
