CCHLA holds event on the bicentenary of Brazil's Independence

On September 7, 1822, on the banks of the Ipiranga River, one of the most important moments in the history of Brazil took place: the declaration of Independence. In 2022, 200 years of this date will be celebrated. With this in mind, the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), through the Department of History, will hold the event 200 years of Brazilian Independence between the months of May and August, starting on May 4th.
The program will feature an exhibition and a series of lectures given by nationally renowned guests, who will address various topics related to Independence. The event is held in partnership with the Dean of Extension (Proex), the Federal Institute Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) and Parque da Cidade.
"In order to collaborate with civil society in Rio Grande do Norte in this challenge of reflecting on the aforementioned anniversary, these actions aim to promote a series of scientific, educational and cultural activities, whose focus is to promote reflection on the place of Rio Grande do Norte in the general history of Brazil, more specifically in the context of the country's Independence. At the moment, we are launching this cycle of conferences and the exhibition. But much more will come", says the professor and coordinator of the event, Carmen Alveal.
The opening will take place on May 4th, at 7pm. A conference will take place at the Historical and Geographic Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IHGRN) held by professor Marcus Carvalho, from UFPE. The next day, May 5th, the same lecture will be held, this time in Auditorium B of CCHLA, at UFRN.
Furthermore, on this day, an exhibition will take place in the CCHLA hall. This exhibition was created by History undergraduate students and supervised by the event coordinators. They will be on display on this day and, between June 1st and June 15th, they will be on display at the Community Center. There are 21 posters created with the intention of reflecting on the bicentenary, including situations that occurred in Rio Grande do Norte. “The idea is for the academic community to establish a dialogue with the external public about the economic, political and sociocultural aspects present in the context of Independence”, explains the professor.
