UFRN Book Club holds meeting to read the poem Ozymandias

The Book Club of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) promotes the reading and discussion of the poem “Ozymandias”, by British author Percy Shelley. The meeting takes place in room D4 of sector II, at 2 pm on November 30th. To register, interested parties must fill out the form available on Clube do Livro’s Instagram (@bookclub.ufrn).
The work in question, according to the Club, is “A very powerful poem that addresses the transience of great deeds, after all, even the most exceptional people will disappear and be forgotten one day”. The sonnet, which is one of Shelley's most famous poems, was originally published in 1818.
The work is called “Ozymandias” because the author was inspired by a statue of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II, whose name in Greek is Ozymandias. Shelley uses the image of sculpture to address themes such as the passage of time, arrogance, and the permanence of art.
Since April this year, with the return of in-person activities, the “The Book Is On The Table” Book Club has already promoted five meetings which discussed important and well-known works of world literature, such as “Frankenstein”, by Mary Shelley and “The Raven”, by Edgar Allan Poe. Therefore, the reading of “Ozymandias” will be the last one this semester.
Spaces for the event are limited and participants will receive a 4-hour certificate. For more information visit the Book Club's Instagram.
