Established 30 years ago, Bloomsday began with studies on the Irish writer James Joyce carried out by retired professor Francisco Ivan da Silva from the Literature department at UFRN. In the last five years, the professor passed the coordination of the event to professor Ana Graça Canan from the department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures.
In 2012, the research group on Irish studies was created by CNPq and is currently responsible for Bloomsday's activities. The group also promotes other work in the area of Irish studies.
Celebrating the work of author James Joyce, this year's Bloomsday will be attended by the Irish Ambassador, Mr. Brian Glynn, who will give the opening lecture “Roger Casement: from British diplomat to Irish revolutionary”. The event will have great participation from undergraduate students and UFRN professors. Registration is now open and must be completed via SIGAA.
Students on the DLLEM English course will present four short stories from the book Dubliners, by writer James Joyce, lectures and a reading of a poem to music.
Professor Ana Graça Canan from UFRN hopes that Bloomsday will allow an exchange of knowledge about Irish studies at the university and that the project will meet the expectations of the public that will attend this great event on June 13th, starting at 9 am, in Auditorium II of CCHLA.
