Next Monday, June 16th, at 3 pm, auditorium C of CCHLA at UFRN will host a session of the event “Ghost Directors, Invisible Stories: Imperfect Cinema Cycle”, organized by the collective BRAVAS – Brigada de Escritoras e Críticas Feministas, with support from the Postgraduate Program in Visual Arts and the University's Department of History.
The purpose of the cycle is to provoke critical reflection on the mechanisms of power that shape the global film industry. Amid the dominance of mass marketing, mainstream cinema and major streaming platforms, the event seeks to rescue cinema as a collective experience and space for in-person debate.
According to the organizers, we live in an era in which freedom of cultural choice is, in practice, an illusion. The multiplicity of available titles hides the scarcity of truly alternative approaches, especially those that involve female productions and perspectives. The cycle positions itself against the “marvelization” of cinema and academic readings that see signs of revolution where there is only the reproduction of conservative structures.
The event is open to the public and aimed especially at students of History, Literature, Arts and related areas, as well as anyone interested in reflecting on the role of women in cinema, outside the hegemonic logic of cultural production and communication.
