The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) will hold the extension course “The social and critical theory of the social economy”, with meetings between the months of March and July, in auditorium E of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA). Activities will take place from 3pm to 7pm.
The course proposes to discuss different approaches to the critique of political economy from classic and contemporary authors of social theory. The program includes debates on Karl Marx, Marcel Mauss, Georg Simmel, Georges Bataille, as well as Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari.
The meetings will be organized by specific themes and dates. The first module, “Marx and the critique of political economy”, takes place between March 27th and April 17th. Then, on May 8th, “Mauss and the gift economy” will be discussed. The cycle continues with “Simmel and the metaphysics of money”, between May 22nd and June 5th, and “Bataille and the economy of expenditure”, on June 19th. The closing will be with “Deleuze, Guattari and Anti-Oedipus”, between June 26th and July 3rd.
The initiative is based on the analysis that, given the new configurations of contemporary capitalism and the emergence of new social pathologies, the perception of the importance of resuming the critique of political economy has grown. The course seeks to articulate this field with new agendas in social theory, expanding the conceptual and theoretical instruments for understanding current social dynamics.
The proposal also foresees the review of works that dialogue with different areas of knowledge, such as political philosophy, aesthetics, psychoanalysis, sociology, anthropology and metaphysics, with the aim of deepening the debate on economy and society in the contemporary context.
