The extension project Talking is the best solution: conversation circles with teenagers about mental health and suicide, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), publishes a booklet with actions on suicide prevention for young people, in reference to the Yellow September prevention month.
The booklet was created by Psychology course students Amanda Melo, Caroline Oliveira, Frederico Clemente, Gêdson Almeida, Lucas Araújo, Morgana Moraes, Olga Maria Hawes, Pedro Otávio, Thainá Souza, Jucieli Polyanna and Mariana Maia under the coordination of professor Ana Karina Azevedo. The work tries to bring closer understanding to the phenomenon of suicide, believing that accepting the pain of those on our side can save lives.
The proposal was born from the experience of a previous extension project: Suicide – information, prevention and care, an integrated action between UFRN and high schools, with the aim of promoting a space for dialogue about suicide and mental health for students.
The actions that make up the extension project consist of meetings with participating students to study texts and materials related to the theme of suicide and psychological distress in adolescence. In addition, actions will be carried out based on the reality of each school, providing conversation circles, with spaces for psychological reception, helping young people to seek help.
