Professor and researcher Corinne Fortier gives a lecture on transidentity in the Muslim world at UFRN

Next Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 9 am, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) will welcome professor and researcher Corinne Fortier (LAS-CNRS Paris) for the lecture ‘Third gender’, trans people and transsexual surgery in the Muslim world”.
The event will take place in the auditorium of the Zila Mamede Central Library (BCZM), on the central campus, and will be in person and open to the public, with no pre-registration required. The organization is CIRS, GCS and Tiresias.
A first-class researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, Corinne Fortier has a degree in psychology, psychoanalysis and clinical ethics, with extensive academic production in the areas of body, gender and sexuality.
Among his main research themes are: the relationship between body and gender identity, sexual surgeries and transidentity in the Muslim context. In 2005, he received the CNRS Bronze Medal for his contributions to anthropology.
Her studies range from the analysis of ritual and surgical practices related to the construction of gender to reflections on kinship, assisted reproduction and sexual identity. In the Muslim context, it investigates figures of the “third gender”, gender relations in public space and the intersection between religion and social norms about sexuality.
