UFRN professor launches books on museum history and culture

On January 10th, professor Helder do Nascimento Viana, from the History Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), will launch two important academic works: “Museu Câmara Cascudo: a story about scientific and cultural production and cultural action in museums (1960-1990)” and “The uses of the popular: collections, museums and identities in Bahia and Pernambuco from the beginning of the century to the 1990s. 1950”.
The event takes place at 10:30 am, in the Zila Mamede Central Library Auditorium, on the UFRN campus, and is aimed at students, teachers and professionals who work or are interested in museums, collecting and cultural history.
The works are the result of Professor Helder's academic research, representing the consolidation of his thesis as a full professor and his doctoral thesis in History. The first book addresses the role of the Câmara Cascudo Museum as the main museum institution in Rio Grande do Norte, analyzing its scientific and cultural production between the 1960s and 1990s. The second work focuses on the collecting of popular objects in Brazil, with a specific look at the historical experiences in Bahia and Pernambuco between the beginning of the 20th century and the 1950s.
