The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, through Georisco, made the publication “100 things to know about risks and disasters” available free of charge on its website.
The initiative proposes to expand the population's understanding of the risks and disasters present in everyday life. With accessible language and everyday examples, the content was designed to reach different audiences, including people without training in the area.
The publication presents fundamental concepts about risks and disasters in a didactic way, structured around questions, with the aim of facilitating the understanding of technical terms and highlighting the role of researchers in disaster prevention.
The material is based on the experiences of the Multirrisk Project, an interinstitutional initiative that involves the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, the Federal University of ABC and the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts. The publication is also linked to the construction of the Natal Municipal Risk Reduction Plan (PMRR), contributing to local management and social participation in disaster prevention.
Faced with the challenges of climate change, the material reinforces the importance of understanding risks as part of the process of building safer and more resilient cities.
