Department of History opens registrations for Hieroglyphics Course

Provide tools for researchers in reading and translating Ancient Egypt. This is the objective of the Hieroglyphics Course: learning and practicing Middle Egyptian (Level I), offered by the Department of History, Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Art (CCHLA). Registration will be available until March 16th, through Sigaa.
Ancient Egypt was a northeast African society that lasted 5 thousand years, and studies dedicated to this group began just 200 years ago, with Egyptology, a discipline that solidified from the so-called “deciphering of hieroglyphs”. Since then, knowledge about the ancient Egyptians has improved with each new discovery through new deciphered translations.
As reading Egyptian inscriptions is one of the main functions of an Egyptologist, this Hieroglyphics Course was developed to begin the training of any researcher in Ancient Egypt, with the aim of serving as an introduction to training in Egyptology at UFRN. There will be 10 weekly classes, which will take place from 2pm to 6pm, with expository classes on Egyptian grammar.
This is a Level 1 course, so the content will be about non-verbal Egyptian textual constructions of what is known as Middle Egyptian, and at the end, it has the purpose of publishing a Manual of Egyptian Sources with the best translation and basic analysis work, done by the course's students.
The course is expected to last 4 months, and participants will receive more information about class locations via email after registering through Sigaa.
