UFRN professor launches book about Graciliano Ramos

Respect and admiration for language and sensitivity was what encouraged a years-long study of the author of Vidas Secas. The Chronology of Graciliano Ramos, written by Marcos Falchero Falleiros, retired professor from the Department of Literature (UFRN), was launched in September, with the aim of presenting a detailed investigation of his works and his biographical data. The result of years of study and dedication, the book explores the delicacy of Graciliano Ramos through his works and their importance for understanding Brazilian literature.
Graciliano Ramos, author of Vidas Secas, Memórias do Cárcere, Viagem, and other works, is considered one of the great names in Brazilian literature. The study with an exhaustive collection of detailed data was carried out during Marcos Falchero Falleiros' period as a professor at UFRN, in addition to in-depth contact with the author since his master's degree at the University of São Paulo (USP), in 1990.
Since this period, Marcos Falchero Falleiros has sought a greater understanding of the precision of language based on Graciliano Ramos' titles. This interest was reflected in his works, articles, conferences and publications in magazines, where he was able to study and expose his knowledge about the author. Over the years, the articles published were not enough and Falchero moved on to a work of biographical investigation.
The work Vidas Secas represented a milestone for northeastern literature in the national vision, exploring aspects of northeastern life in a concise and sensitive way. “This is an author of universal expression who puts the condition of the Brazilian Northeast into focus”, added Falchero, regarding the importance of the work for Brazilian literature.
The research presents detailed and well-researched data about Graciliano's life and works. For the author, the book is a documentary record of his journey, useful for studying and improving the critical view of Graciliano Ramos' literature. The book is available for download and can be accessed free of charge by anyone interested.
