PopCom holds a workshop on the dynamics of pop culture writing

The Pop Culture Communication Laboratory (PopCom/UFRN) holds the Pop Culture Writing Dynamics workshop, with Gabriel Avila, senior reporter for Jovem Nerd and former member of the Omelete portal. Among the topics of the meeting are the operation of a newsroom specializing in the nerd universe, experiences in the field, practical tips and answers to participants' questions. The event is in virtual format through Google Meet, and it is necessary to register in advance.
With years of experience, Gabriel Avila is currently part of the Jovem Nerd team, as a senior reporter, and presents the podcast Lá do Bunker, focused on covering news from the nerd universe. He also worked as a reporter for Omelete, covering major events and interviewed international personalities in the geek world.
During the workshop, Gabriel shares his experiences in two of the largest pop culture newsrooms in the country, discussing the functioning of these environments, the challenges of the segment, content formats and editorial production flow. Your participation marks the beginning of a series of meetings that PopCom intends to hold throughout the year, with prominent guests from the market and professors from the Department of Social Communication (Decom/UFRN).
PopCom is an initiative that seeks to expand knowledge about media coverage specialized in pop entertainment, allowing students to develop essential skills to operate in this growing market. In a scenario in which pop culture becomes a central part of the global entertainment industry, understanding the languages, audiences and dynamics of this market is essential.
In the wide spectrum of content that this segment covers, the Laboratory specializes in communication studies in films, series, comics and electronic games, in addition to event coverage. Actions like this are an opportunity for those who want to understand more about the challenges of the area and delve deeper into the particularities of covering the geek universe.
