The Extension Project Shows Fantastic Geographies: Collective Imaginaries and the Potiguar Regional Identity is the result of a partnership between the Environmental Studies Sector and the Veríssimo de Melo Sector Library of the Câmara Cascudo Museum (MCC), of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).
The exhibition will be held from August 11th to September 25th, at the Câmara Cascudo Museum Library, with visits from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 12pm. The program is open to the public.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover a universe in which memory, culture and territory are intertwined through narratives present in Rio Grande do Norte, in the popular imagination and transmitted through generations. The proposal is to present different ways of understanding the landscape, history and regional identity.
The illustrations on display are part of the work Fantastic Geographies: Collective Imaginaries and Potiguar Regional Identity, authored by Gabriela Paiva Marques, Andreia Aliny de Lima Furtado, Leonardo Lima de Oliveira, currently graduates in Geography, and professor Alessandro Dozena, from the Department of Geography at UFRN. The work is the result of the articulation between research, art and education.
The exhibition also brings together poems inspired by the narratives presented, produced by the intern teacher and 8th and 9th year students from Escola Municipal Governador Mário Covas, in Passa e Fica (RN): Daniel Maximino de Farias, José Adryan Henrique Dantas Cordeiro, Emanuelly Rosa Costa, Luiggi Gabriel Vitor André, Rayssa Maria Tinoco Lira and Ceciliane de Lima Moreira. The productions expand the dialogue between literature, art and oral tradition, offering new perspectives on the narratives that make up the Rio Grande do Norte imagination.
More than presenting legends, the exhibition proposes an experience of valuing collective memory, inviting the visitor to recognize how these narratives remain alive and strengthen the feeling of belonging and identity of the people of Rio Grande do Sul.
As part of the program, on August 12th, at 9:30 am, the conversation circle Whispers of Time will be held, at the Câmara Cascudo Museum Library. The meeting was conceived as a space for dialogue and reflection on the narratives present in Rio Grande do Norte and will discuss how these stories, transmitted through oral tradition, preserve memories and contribute to the construction of Rio Grande do Norte's cultural identity.
The activity will feature the participation of professor Alessandro Dozena, from the Department of Geography at UFRN, and geographers Gabriela Paiva and Andreia Furtado, authors of the work that inspired the extension project. Students from Elementary School II from Passa e Fica (RN), authors of the poems presented in the exhibition, will also participate.
All programming is free and open to the public.
