The Department of Psychology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (DEPSI/UFRN) and the Antônio Edson Julião da Silva Academic Center for Psychology promote a program related to Brazilian Psychology Month. The activities propose reflections on the role of Psychology and its commitments to democracy, human rights, diversity and social transformation.
Programming is based on the understanding that psychological practice is crossed by historical, economic, political and cultural conditions. In this context, the initiative addresses topics related to inequalities, hate speech, wars, forced displacement and different forms of discrimination.
As part of the program, thematic cards produced by students will be launched, with content aimed at confronting machismo, hate speech, ableism and LGBTQIA+phobia, in addition to defending secularism. The materials seek to promote reflections on violence and prejudice and their relationships with social structures, institutions and inequalities present in Brazilian society.
Psychology and Migrations
On August 28th, the program will focus on Psychology and Migrations. At 9 am, in Auditorium B of the CCHLA, the conference The world in displacement: wars, colonialism and the production of refugees will be held, with Rima Awada Zahra, a psychologist specializing in migration.
At 10:30 am, a round table will focus on the experiences and voices of people directly involved in migration processes. Participating are Tânia Robert Vera-Cruz Alves, representative of African migrants, refugees and stateless people, from Cape Verde, and Mizael Pérez, Warao indigenous leader.
From 2pm onwards, the program continues in the CCHLA Courtyard with a cultural activity dedicated to art, encounter and diversity. The initiative reaffirms the University as a territory for coexistence between different knowledge, cultures and ways of existing.
The program is promoted by DEPSI/UFRN and the Antônio Edson Julião da Silva Academic Center of Psychology.
