Taking place from the 10th to the 12th of March, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), the Macambira – Mostra de Cinema de Directors, which aims to give visibility and promote the debate on films directed by women. The event is free, non-competitive and opens space for local and national audiovisual production.
With 215 entries from all over Brazil, after curation, 19 national films and 12 from Rio Grande do Norte will be shown, in addition to the feature film Ilha, directed by Glenda Nicácio and Ary Rosa, who was invited by the event organizers. The curatorship is by Rosy Nascimento, Anti Ribeiro and Renata Pyrrho.
There will be two places where the films will be shown, in the afternoons, starting at 5pm, in the UFRN Physical Education Department Auditorium, and in the evening, starting at 7pm, in the NEPSA I Auditorium, at the Center for Applied Social Sciences (CCSA). After the film screenings, there will be a debate with guests and filmmakers.
In addition to the screening of the films, there will be an Afrofiction workshop, taught by the Sergipe audiovisual artist Anti Ribeiro, during all days of the exhibition, from 1pm to 4pm, at the UFRN Social Communication Department. The aim of the workshop is to trigger artistic processes that rethink the place of raciality in fictional construction.
During the exhibition, works in short and feature-length films, directed by women, will be shown, with the purpose of promoting a space for dialogue about feminism and cinema, bringing urgent issues such as representation in cinema, considering race, class, gender identity and sexual identity, for example.
The first edition of the Mostra Macambira is promoted by Mulungu Audiovisual and Salobra Filmes and is sponsored by the Culture Incentive Fund – FIC 2018, launched by the City of Natal through the Capitania das Artes Cultural Foundation.
