With the growing increase in diseases caused by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte mobilized in the fight against the mosquito by carrying out awareness campaigns for the entire academic community and the population of Rio Grande do Norte.
Since 2014, the university has created a Working Group (GT) that works on mosquito control within the scope of UFRN. Coordinator of the GT, Maria de Fátima Freire de Melo Ximenes, dean of extension and researcher at the Postgraduate Program in Biochemistry at the Center for Biosciences, explains that the order is to collect cups, bottles, cans, plastic bags, “in short, any trash that can accumulate water and become a breeding ground for Aedes at the institutional level”.
Having been on air for two weeks, the educational campaign created by the institution regarding the consequences of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes remains in circulation, and new material on the subject will be used by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), starting in the second week of February this year.
