UFRN promotes training course on assistance to deaf people

The Applied Psychology Service (Sepa), in partnership with the Libras/Portuguese Language Course (CLLP), from UFRN, and the Institute of Psychology and Deaf Studies (Ipes), promotes the Training Course for Mental Health Professionals on Care for Deaf People. The course will start on May 6th, at 6 pm, and will consist of 8 modules, with theoretical and practical classes. Classes will take place remotely, via the zoom platform.
The meetings of this course will promote discussions that will involve the following topics: Deaf studies and their relationship with Psychology; Introduction to language studies; Psychological assistance to deaf people who use Libras; Psychological care aimed at families of deaf people; Preliminary interviews and anamnesis with deaf people; The role of bilingual Psychologists in the Public Mental Health Service; Repair techniques and their effects on deaf subjectivity and, finally, Introduction to Brazilian Sign Language.
The objectives of the course are: to curb forms of discrimination due to lack of knowledge of the Brazilian Sign Language – Libras, to promote interpersonal communication, to strengthen the training of mental health professionals, to promote a process of linguistic accessibility and to contribute to greater socio-educational participation, within the scope of mental health, of deaf people.
