The Postgraduate Program in Media Studies at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) launched, on August 12th, the book “Decentered criticism for common sense Vol. V: Sampling of reflection on contemporary communication carried out at UFRN.” The work was organized by professor Sebastião Guilherme Albano and doctoral student Hélder Paulo Cordeiro da Nóbrega, both members of the program, and has the collaboration of students from the course.
The collection brings together essays and scientific articles produced by master's and doctoral students during the course “Study of Media in Social Practices”, taught by Sebastião Albano, who also designed the book project. Among the topics covered are media invisibility related to gender, the analysis of podcasts as personal development tools, and branding linked to the construction of a brand's imagination in a higher education institution in the Northeast.
Other topics discussed include northeastern cinema, the identities of cyberpunk characters as simulacra of contemporary reality, and a proposal for an interpretative communication methodology based on the works of Paulo Freire.
In addition to Hélder Nóbrega, who participated as author and organizer, the book features contributions from Oma Roxana Cordeiro de Oliveira, Max Suel Praxedes da Silva, Priscilla Nogueira Krüger Kramer, Siméia Rêgo de Oliveira, Nathália Figueiredo de Oliveira Brito and Isabelly da Silva Farias Queiroz, totaling seven academic articles focused on Media Studies.
According to Professor Sebastião, the launch of the fifth volume of the collection reflects the transitions and advances in reflections on contemporary communication developed in the program over the last 16 years. He highlights the importance of the work for consolidating new knowledge and transforming knowledge in the field of communication.
