UFRN gains two more emeritus professors in a ceremony in the rectory auditorium

On the afternoon of May 16th, there was jubilation and joy in the Rectory auditorium. In the presence of the rector Ângela Maria Paiva Cruz, the director of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts, Maria das Graças Soares Rodrigues, the Biosciences Center Graco Viana and other university authorities, as well as professors and employees from the psychology department and the biosciences area, the star of two professors shone who, at the end of the ceremony, became emeritus at the institution.
The ritual was impeccable and began with quality music with the Café Quarteto da Escola de Música. Afterwards, curricula were read and speeches were given, in addition to the incorporation of new clothing for the two teachers honored with the title.
The first went to professor Maria Emília Yamamoto, with a career revealing awards, guidance for masters and doctors, organization of international events, member of entities, sometimes as president, and pioneer of evolutionary psychology in Brazil.
After her, Professor Oswaldo Yamamoto, from the psychology department, received the title of professor emeritus. Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto is a full professor at UFRN, an institution to which he has been linked since 1979, coordinator of the university's postgraduate program in Psychology and 1B researcher at CNPq. He was a representative of the Psychology area of ​​the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) (2005-2008), member of the CAPES Scientific Technical Council (2005-2008) and is currently a member of the CNPq Psychology Advisory Committee (2009-2012). He has extensive experience in the areas of psychology and education, investigating topics related to social policies and the practice of psychology, and Marxian thought and the practice of education.
Professor Yamamoto stated that he received the title “with great joy, with great honor, it is the greatest honor a professor can receive, without a doubt it is the highlight of my career”.
For the director of CCHLA, professor Maria das Graças Soares Rodrigues, the title “is the consecration of a career, the recognition of the university community for a professor who has always been dedicated to teaching, research and extension”.
The vice-director of CCHLA, professor Sebastião Faustino Pereira Filho, praised the work of the two professors and classified the title as a rite of passage, in addition to “being a recognition that UFRN gives to professors who contribute positively to the institution, brightening the history of those who receive it”.
Since its creation on June 25, 1958, UFRN has awarded 135 honorary titles, 51 of which are doctor honoris causa, 18 professor honoris causa and 66 professor emeritus.
