The technical-scientific team of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (PMRR) of the municipality of Natal already had its first work meeting last Friday, March 1st, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. On the occasion, team members Lutiane Almeida, Ricardo Matos, Pitágoras Bindé, Caroline Sales, Anderson Maia and Cristiano Alves discussed the first steps in preparing the strategic plan, which will focus on monitoring and reducing or controlling risk situations in the mapped areas of the municipality.
The PMRR is an important instrument for preventing and managing disaster risks. Although the capital of Rio Grande do Norte has a plan from 2008, to be effective, it requires updating and articulating with the municipality's contemporary challenges. “The proposal is to develop a PMRR that takes into account the new scenarios caused by the intensification of climate change”, highlights the project coordinator, Lutiane Almeida.
This initiative is the result of a partnership between the National Secretariat for Peripheries, the Ministry of Cities, Fiocruz, public universities and city halls. In addition to the construction of PMRRs, the proposal seeks to contribute to the training of professionals in the area of risk mitigation and disaster prevention.
