The Department of Philosophy (DEFIL) at UFRN opens registrations for the extension course “Afro-Brazilian Religions. The program is part of the ninth edition of the event of the Study Group of Brazilian Thinkers, referring to the semester 2023.2. The course activities will be carried out in a hybrid format, combining virtual and face-to-face meetings. The first discussion will take place on August 21, at 2 pm, in Auditorium C of the CCHLA. Registrations are available available on SIGAA.
The group's central purpose is to deepen the interpretation of Brazilian reality based on the contributions of renowned authors. Furthermore, the course aims to follow his political-social struggles, his conceptual formulations and his theoretical proposals. The focus will be on terreiro epistemologies and their implications in different spheres – spiritual, ontological, aesthetic, ethical, political and pedagogical –, as well as on the discussion of religious intolerance, seeking an in-depth reflection on these themes.
In this edition, the group will dedicate itself to exploring relevant works related to Afro-Brazilian religiosities. Texts by important figures such as Mãe Stella de Oxossi, Sidnei Nogueira and Luiz Rufino will be the works included. These authors propose a dissemination of thought guided by counter-hegemonic perspectives, which are still little covered in philosophy curricula and require wider dissemination in society in general.
The complete schedule of events is now accessible through the SIGAA platform.
